INDONESIAN DISPUTE

INTERVENTION ADVOCATED CASE FOR ALL NATIONS Rec. 9.30 p.m. NEW YORK, Aug. 18. The New York Times, in a leader, says: ‘lt is time for someone to do something on Indonesia, for neither side has in fact ceased firing. We believe it is not the only duty of the United Nations to set up a commission either to arbitrate or mediate in the dispute, but that it is an opportunity that should not be missed. “ It seems useless to hope for a resumption of good relations or even negotiations between the Dutch and the Indonesians,” the paper adds. “Without this outside intervention the world has confidence, we believe, in the good intentions of the Dutch. But after the events of the past three weeks and ahalf, the Indonesians may not be so sure. An outside commission is called for. And not, vve believe, a commission from one nation, but one representing all the nations, named by the Security Council.”
