NEW REST ROOM

“WOMEN PARTICULARLY PLEASED " COUNCIL CONGRATULATED “ We are particularly pleased with the decision of the City Council to establish a women’s rest room in the Athenaium building in the Octagon,'’ said Mrs W. K. Cameron, president of the Dunedin branch of the National Council of Women, when invited yesterday to comment on the subject. For a long time women’s organisations had been advocating the provision of rest rooms on ground-floor level so that the necessity for trudging up stairs would no longer exist, she said. The central site of the new rest room was warmly commended by Mrs Cameron, who said the ground-floor situation would .be a boon lo mothers with small children and to elderly women. Complete satisfaction with the Council’s proposals was also expressed by Mrs L. F. Cleghorn, president of the Plunket Society. “ From what I know of the council’s intentions it seems certain that an up-to-date and comfortable rest room is to be provided for the women of Dunedin,” Mrs Cameron added. “We heartily congratulate the City Council on its achievement.” Dr J. R. Elder, president of the Dunedin Athenaeum, said that the Athenaeum Committee had been pleased to help the City Council in its difficulty to find a suitable site for a women’s rest room. The committee had been glad to take the opportunity to assist in providing a community service because community service was one of the original motives of the persons who had founded the Athenaeum.
