SUGGESTIONS TO CONFERENCE

CHAMBER OF COMMERCE PROPOSALS “ On the face of it, it does not seem as if we are doing much,” said Mr C. J. Production to be increased by the working of a compulsory 44liour week in basic industries, such as woollen goods, footwear, fertiliser, transport, and the waterfront, 40 hours ordinary time and four hours at time and a-half, payment by results to be applied as far as possible. It was also suggested, Mr Stephens added, that the Government should give the public a full statement of the position so as to encourage co-opera-tion. The recommendations were approved.
