RECOMMENDATIONS AND REPORTS The following committee reports and recommends tions will come before the monthly meeting of the Oamaru Borough Council to-morrow night:— Finance. —Recommends that a grant of £5 5s be made to the St. John Ambulance Brigade; that the letter from the Department of Internal Affairs enclosing than four Saturdays in a year be developing Reserve C be received; that the Theosophical Society's request for exemption from rates be granted. Town Hall.—Recommends that the request by six organisations that the Opera House be made available for hire on more than four Saturdays in a year de declined; that the application of the Competitions Society for the use of the Opera House on a Saturday in May, 1948, be held over for consideration in January. Works.—Recommends that the expenditurc'for maintenance of the road through Reserve A from Test street to the lighthouse be apportioned as follows —Council two-thirds, Harbour Board one-third; that the engineer’s report on the requests from the petitioners in Dart street be received and the recommendations adopted. Reserves.—Recommends that the further letter from the Nor’h Otago Sports Bodies’ Association with reference to the mutilation of turf on playing areas be referred to the inspector for attention; that the chairman’s action in arranging with Mr A. Park for sufficient cultivated and cleaned land for the growing of dowel's for the decoration of floats at the Otago Centennial celebrations be approved; that the Meadowbank Tennis Club’s request to extend the paved area be received and adopted, and that .representatives of the Tennis and Basketball Clubs be invited to meet the committee at the next meeting to discuss the question of an increased rental
