CLOTHING ALSO CRITICISED APPEAL TO MANUFACTURERS P.A. WELLINGTON, Aug. 18. Because the Wellington Housewives’ Association is dissatisfied with the position regarding footwear and clothing sizes, it is to approach the Ministry of Supply concerning shoes for children and older women in particular and send a letter of protest to the Manufacturers’ Association expressing “ extreme dissatisfaction ” at the disparity of clothing sizes available in shops. Through a deputation to the Director of Broadcasting, Professor J. Shelley, members are to ask for more suitable radio programmes. These decisions were reached at a well-attended meeting of members to-day. When it approaches the Ministry of Supply the association will ask that only qualified people be given licences to make shoes and that where shoes of suitable quality and style are available overseas they be imported. It will also ask to what uses was good New Zealand or imported leather being put and was it going to produce luxury lines of goods. That some uniformity be observed in the manufacturing of garments will be asked by the association in its letter to the Manufacturers’ Associa- ' tion. Several complaints about sizes were made. A member declared that the radio programmes provided for women listeners were disgraceful. There were too many crime serials, and the majority of children listened to them and not to the children’s programmes. Members of the association decided to listen in to future radio programmes and report back to the association those they consider unsuitable.
