Slow Handling Of Food Cargo by South American Dockers

N.Z.P.A. Special Correspondent Rec. 9 p.m. LONDON, Aug. 18. Slow handling by dockers in Rio de Janeiro and Buenos Aires is estimated to have added £30,009 to the cost of the 10.000-ton food cargo which arrived in Liverpool in the Javanese Prince. The vessel had to wait six weeks at Rio discharging 3750 tons of cargo and loading bananas. At Buenos Aires seven weeks were required to discharge 1800 tons and load 7776 tons of tinned beef, hides and fertiliser. Liverpool dockers estimated that they could handle the same quantity of cargo in a fortnight.
