LETTER TO CITY COUNCIL CRITICISM IN OPEN MEETING DEPLORED “ What has happened to the letter from the Professional Engineers’ Association which, we have read in the newspapers, was sent to the council? ” asked Cr McCrae, chairman of the Transport Committee, at a meeting of the City Council last night. The letter, which has been published in the Daily Times, expressed the concern of the. association at the principle involved in the “ serious aspersions cast on the professional ability ” of the engineer-manager of the transport corporation, Mr L. Cr Greig, by certain councillors in open meeting. The letter added that Mr Greig did not have the opportunity to make any reasonable reply in self-defence in public. Replying to Cr McCrae at the meeting of the council last night, the Mayor, Mr Cameron, said he had suggested that the letter should first be discussed by the Transport Committee before it was considered by the council. Cr McCrae: The letter has notmng to do with the Transport Committee. The subject was dealt with by the council in open meeting, and the letter should be placed before the council to-night. The Mayor: I have no objection to the letter being considered now. After the town clerk. Mr R. A. Johnston, had read the letter, the Mayor asked if it should be received. There was murmured assent “Any comment? ” asked Mr Came-: ron. but councillors remained silent. “The letter is received,” said the Mayor.
