FORWARDS DOMINATE PLAY
ZINGARI BEATS ALHAMBRA Zingari-Richmond owed its win against Alhambra by 22 points to 3 In the match at Opoho, to a rugged set of forwards, who were able to dominate play from the beginning. Neither backline was particularly impressive, but some good short passing movements by the Zingari front division showed, that initiative was not completely absent. Zingari packed a weighty scrum, and in addition- the forwards possessed pace in the open. Two useful members of the pack were S. Dowland, who scored two tries, one by backing up quickly, and who also kicked a penalty, and C. Garden, R. Cody worked solidly in the tight until forced to retire by an injury, and A, E. Hellyer, although inclined to play too loosely, was, nevertheless, valuable to his side. In the backs, E. Macdonald was always eager to seize opportunities. His defence 'was not very sound. Alhambra was a • weakened team, and although the forwards held their own in the tight play, they could not stop the Zingari forwards once the ball was out in the open. W. Neame was good in the line out play, and Matheson and Winter were hard-working packmen. The backs had one or two runs, but chances were lost through fumbling and misdirected passing. Tries for Zingari were scored by Dowland (2), Hellyer, L. Watsn, A. Phillips, and two of these were converted by W. Brown and G. Barbara. Dowland kicked a penalty goal. For Alhambra, D. Leckie, who played a sound game, especially after he moved into the half-back position, scored a try. Mr A. Kalligan was the referee.
