SOUGHT BY REPUBLICAN LEADER Rec. 8 p.m. BATAVIA, Aug. la. Dr Sjarifudden to-day sent a cable to Mr Attlee saying that the Indonesian Government and people were “ fully conscious and appreciative of all your Government has done to assist us in finding a lasting and peaceful solution of the dispute. Realising that the moral influence of the Great Powers was needed in the Security Council, I request you to instruct the British delegate to support all proposals most calculated to settle this conflict with speed and justice.” The cable requested Mr Attlee to consider whether or not international arbitration was the most reasonable and the most likely to succeed.
