GREEN ISLAND TRANSPORT
Sir,—The impression gained from Mr Harper's explanation is that the granting of a licence to operate this service was so unexpected that the sale of shares expeditiously superseded the basic principle of the scheme, i.e., “ for the returned servicemen,” without which the Green Island Borough Council would not have supported the scheme. As a permanent resident of Green Island who is constantly in touch with the business men, particularly returned servicemen, in view of the supposed free discussion on this m ®“er. it is remarkable that I have never heard the service discussed. With the amount of surplus capital in circulation to-day waiting to b ® shares in this company would have been subscribed immediately. Mr Harper's own statement that certain men wanted to provide all the bulk of the capital substantiates this remark, and it certainly weakens his theory that writing to the R-o-A-would have conveyed the impression of difficulty in placing the shares. As the matter now stands it is a c ! , j e ®!' on pacifying the borough council.-lam. etc..
