BROWN MEMORIAL

WIN FOR NORTHERN Northern retained the “Andy ” Brown Memorial Cup by beating Maori Hill in a game which was played as a curtainraiser to the Chatham Cup match. During the interval of the latter game the cup was presented to Northern by the president of the Otago Football Association, Mr E. L. Hope. The first half of this annual fixture was open and even, the young Maori Hill eleven holding its strong opponents to a two-goal lead. In the early stages of the second spell Hill was weakened when Ferguson, the capable left back, suffered an ankle injury, but he returned to the field after receiving treatment. The Northern half-backs dominated the play, and the forwards obtained a feast of the ball, and by good combined movements gave Turner, in goal, a busy day. Throughout the match he gave a sound display. For the winners Hill, McLean, Welsh, and Jenkins scored, Newall scoring for Maori Hill. Mr D. Welham was the referee.
