Rec. 7 p.m. LONDON. Aug. 14. No: 10 Downing street announced jhat an earldom of the United. Kingdom had. been conferred on Viscount Mountbatten of Burma. The Downing street announcement, by including the rare designations GiM.S.I. and G.M.LE. in Lord Mountbatten’s title, indicated that, he remains, as Governor of India. Grand Master of the Star of India and Grand Master of the Order of the Indian Empire The rank; which is second only to the Sovereign, has always been held by the Viceroy
