Little Enthusiasm Shown at Karachi
NEW DELHI, Aug. 14. A surprising lack of popular enthusiasm marked the elaborate ceremonies at Karachi. There were shouts of “ Long live our grea* leader ” when Mr Jinnah arrived at the Constituent Assembly. There was some cheering when later he and Lord Mountbatten drove through the streets, otherwise there was a general air of apathy. Some of the main streets through which the procession passed were half empty. The-, explanation may be that the inhabitants realise the tremendous problems -which overshadow the birth of a new State and which have already made life difficult. Reports state that East Bengal was as apathetic as Karachi.
