Royal Tan will probably need a race or two to bring him to his best. Ruling Moment is a smart hurdler, bid he does not appreciate the longer journeys. „ Ganjah has been racing very solidly, and has won twice in three starts at Riccarton. The Favourite Page’s Raid will probably be the shortest-priced favourite at Riccarton today. Promising Form Lord Elgin was always well placed in the Islington Handicap, and very little improvement on that form will find him an early winner. Capable of Surprise Miss Medley would add interest to the running of the Heathcote Handicap if she ran up to her Winter Cup form. She is, however, not the most consistent of gallopers. At Invercargill Spare Part is one of T. Pankhurst’s team at Invercargill, and is reported to have developed into an outstanding type of four-year-old. The Salmagundi gelding should do well in the new season. Likes Shorter Distance The Royal Chief filly Banshee will be better suited by the distance of the Redcliffs Handicap than she was by the nine furlongs of the Sumner Hack Handicap. Out of Favour Good Cast has not been putting much dash into his efforts, and he will be at an outside price in the Heathcote Handicap to-day. Improvement Likely Playtos has been working impressively, and the Plato gelding, with W. J. Broughton in the saddle, may show improvement in the Selwyn Handicap. A Long spell Soar is not likely to appeal to speculators in the Longbeach Handicap, as she has not been raced since last October She is a three-year-old filly by. Ninth Duke from Maktoub, and won one of her two races last season.
