ROYAL WEDDING CEREMONY EXPRESSED WISH OF THEIR MAJESTIES N.Z.P.A. Special Correspondent Rec. 8 p.m. LONDON, Aug. 15. The Daily Telegraph’s diarist’ says that their. Majesties have made it clear that they would regret any lavish ‘display or expenditure in connection with the marriage of Princess Elizabeth and Lieutenant Mountbatten, and as a result a serious attempt is being made to keep the arrangements for the ceremony on a modest scale.
The Earl Chief Marshal of England, the Duke fo Norfolk, as a result will not be asked to take charge of the arrangements on the scale undertaken for the Coronation, but ali details in connection with the Abbey ceremony
will be left in the hands of the. Dean and Chapter. The choir of the Abbey will Be augmented by the choirs of other royal chapels. It is also reported that Princess Elizabeth will receive wedding gifts from each of the three fighting services. Contributions will be voluntary, but it is expected that, the majority of the soldiers, sailors, airmen and members of the corresponding women’s auxiliary services will want to contribute small sums.
