Mr Gandhi Stoned By Hindu Youths
CALCUTTA. Aug. 13. About 1000 Hindu youths stoned and broke windows in Mr Gandhi’s new “ peace mission ” hut in Beliaghatta, the riot centre suburb of Calcutta. The floors were littered with broken glass and rubbish thrown by the demonstrators. The youths shouted for Mr Gandhi and Mr Suhrawardy. Bengal’s Moslem Prime Minister, who is living with Mr Gandhi, to “go back.” They clashed with people trying to enter the dwelling, and prevented Mr Gandhi from holding his usual prayer meeting. The police used force to disperse the crowd. As the stones were hurled. Mr Gandhi went to a window of his hut and said: “If you convince me I am mistaken I will leave, but if you use force The rest of his sentence was drowned in screams as the mob set upon some of his followers, who had arrived for the prayer meeting. Mr Gandhi’s granddaughter. MaTiu, ran out and pleaded for order, but the demonstrators manhandled her.
