Working Well Jack's Son is reported to be working well at Tinwald and is expected to race prominently at the Addington meeting this month.
Change of Stable Abel Tasman, is now in R. J. Berry's stable. The Calumet—Axworthy gelding was previously trained by G. Cameron and in 15 starts his record was two wins, three seconds, and one fourth. Barrier Practice Needed Mala has her full share of speed but until she learns how to begin quickly she will not be a good betting proposition. A Veteran Trotter
Margin, the winner of the Dominion Handicap in 1942, has been placed in work again. The Maxegin mare is now 13 years of age. High Command
The promising four-year-old High Command is to be nominated for the Metropolitan Stakes, a race for four-year-olds on the second day of the Metropolitan meeting. The son of Dillon Hall and Marion Drive had an impressive win at Washdyke last ’month. Stakes Candidate
Beckleigh, who Is likely to be one of the favourites fo r the Canterbury Stakes at Addington, has a tendency to lose ground when the barriers are released. He ran third to Demetrius and Mala in the Welcome Stakes after breaking badly at the start. He will start from the front mark’ in the Canterbury Stakes. American Trotting Stallion An offer of 55,000 dollars has been refused by the American owner, Mr H. H. Johnston, for the three-year-old trotting stallion, Rodney, 2min 2sec (states the Horseman). It was thought that the horse was meant for ultimate exportation, though he might have stayed in America for his 1947 Futurity and Stake engagements, which includes the Hambletonian, Kentucky and Futurity. Rodney, who is a product of Hanover Shoe Farms, is a bay colt by Spencer Scott (lmin 573 sec) from Earl’s Princess Martha (2min ltsec), which is by Protector (lmin 59Isec). His record of 2min 2sec, which was made at Lexington, was the fastest of the year for two-year-old trotters.
