ANTI-JEWISH MOBS
FACTORY SET ON FIRE LIVERPOOL DEMONSTRATIONS FOUR ARRESTS MADE Rec. 10 p.m. LONDON, May 4. Anti-Jewish demonstrations last night broke out in several quarters in Liverpool. Many Jewish shops were damaged and a cabinet factory was set on fire. A strong force of police was . called out when a crowd of civilians and soldiers started a demonstration in the centre of the city Jewish area. A crowd of 300 to 400 persons, including servicemen gathered outside a hall in Manchester, where Jews were holding a social and dance. The crowd for a long time would not let the dancers leave. Onlookers watched a plate glass window of a clothing shop being smashed, and there were cries of “ Down with the Jews ” each time a brick was thrown. Four arrests were made. The crowd at a meeting held in London suburbs to-day under the auspices of the Jewish Ex-servicemen's Association became hostile and the police, fearing a breach of the peace, closed the meeting. Stone-throwing damaged six windows at a synagogue in another London suburb. Liverpool police chiefs have prepared plans to counteract fresh antiJewish outbreaks. The police made several arrests.
