RUHR COALFIELDS
BRITISH MINERS IMPRESSED TRANSPORT SYSTEM PRAISED N.Z.P.A. Special Correspondent Rec. 8 p.m. LONDON, Aug. 4. Thirty British miners who returned from a tour of the Ruhr coalfields praised transport and other underground arrangements in the German pits, and expressed the opinion that if transport in British coal mines was organised on the same basis output would be increased by leaps and bounds. The spokesman for the party said that they were shocked at the bad food situation, and expressed the opinion that no British miner could do a day’s work on a German miner’s rations. German miners were working longer hours than the British, but there were so few goods in the shops and their wages had little value. The Miners’ Union is to organise a return visit to Britain by a party of German miners.
