STILL IN DOUBT

SOUTH AFRICAN TOUR P.A. WELLINGTON, Aug. 4. A meeting of the New Zealand Rugby Football Union’s Management Committee to-day decided to send a cablegram to South Africa stating that unless a reply was received by Thursday of this week saying that the tour of South Africa next year would be feasible, the executive would recommend the abandonment of the tour. To-day’s discussion on ‘the tour arose out of advice received from London that no guarantee could be given that it would be possible to bring the team back from South Africa. - The chairman, Mr S. S. Dealt, who used such words as “ quite hopeless,” “ impossible,” and “ impracticable,” when discussing the possibility of sending the team, also stated that the cost of transporting a team by air would be £19.770. compared with £SOOO for travelling by sea.
