A UNIQUE DISPLAY

GREAT INTEREST SHOWN BY DUNEDIN PUBLIC

A display that attracted a considerable amount of attention in Dunedin was the first stand on the left as one entered the Winter Show held by the Otago A. and P. Society in their building in Crawford street. There were many interesting things on display on this stand, and farmers, builders, contractors, factory managers, as well as Mr and Mrs John Citizen, were intrigued by the various machines they saw on this stand erected by Reid and Gray, Ltd., of Burnside. The Aga Cooker created considerable interest, especially among women folk. A sign at the back of the cooker explained that the Aga is “ the fire that never goes out.” Inquiries revealed the fact that the Aga is ideally suited to the average household as well as larger establishments, burning night and day on a guaranteed maximum fuel consumption of 2j> tons of coke per annum, showing the amazing economy of this modern streamlined cooker.

Of interest to the woodworking man and metalworker was the British-made “ Over-and-under machine,” the American “Atlas” drill press and hydraulic workhead, and “ Lectric ” woodworking machinery, including grinders and portable drills. The “Teles” chain-saw for felling trees and cuttings logs brought forth many enquiries, as did the Gorman Rupp Pump, Warsop portable self-contained roadbreaker and rockdrill, and Webster spray-painting equipment. Farming men commented favourably on the three-furrow H. 8.8. tractor plough, which, together with the “ Silver Plough,” has made the name Reid and Gray a by-word for ploughs throughout the Dominion. Reid and Gray, Ltd., are also distributors in Otago arid Southland for Lister separators (with Staybrite stainless steel discs and bowl), and the Lister shearing plant, both of which were on view on Reid and Gray’s stand. It is of interest to note that Reid and Gray specialise in machinery other than the farming and industrial and general machinery they displayed at the show. Reid and Gray,- Ltd., are agents for Coles mobile crane, and some of the world’s best-known earthmoving machinery, such as Koehring excavators, Digma “ Carry-all,” bulldozers, angle-dozers, and Frederick Parker road-making machinery. Of special interest in these times is the Lister range of Diesel-driven generating plants, for which Reid and Gray, Ltd., are agents. There are small models for homesteads, as well as large models particularly suited as stand-by plants in industry.—P.B.A.
