REBELLION IN ARAKAN
SEPARATIST MOVEMENT OFFICIALS LOSING CONTROL Rec. 9 p.m. RANGOON. June 3. About 7000 Gurkha Punjabi troops and Burmese police are in action in Arakan trying to quell rebels, who are seeking the separation of Arakan from the rest of Burma. A high Government official after a visit to Arakan said that the situation was most critical and there was virtually no administration. The head men were on strike, officials were unable to move without armed escort, and farming and trade were at a standstill.
