LEFT BEHIND
MOTOR CAR AND TROTTER
ABSENT-MINDED RACECOURSE PATRONS
P.A. ASHBURTON, June 4. Forgetful patrons of race meetings invariably leave a large collection of articles behind, and those gathered by the staff after the last event at Monday’s meeting of the Ashburton Trotting Club provided something in the way of a record under this head, for the impedimenta left behind included one motor car and one trotter. The car has since been claimed, but the trotter, up to this morning, was still awaiting its owner. ■ ; The owner-driver of Loyal Nurse, which won the All-aged Stakes on Monday, Mr C. V. May, is an inmate of the Public Hospital for observation. The trouble is thought to be appendicitis. May rose from a sick bed to drive the horse, which was accorded- a mixed reception by a small section of the crowd. Mr May asserted that the mare is moody; and though she won at a matinee meeting at Methven last week was not at her best on the first day at Ashburton.
