CONFIDENCE IN GOVERNMENT

Sir,—As an elector who at the ballot box will put the price of shirts entirely subservient to the interests of civilisation and Christianity, I would like to ask •’ Matilda ” to explain the reason for the swing of our nation to Socialism, with strong sympathy for Russia. In the meantime. I piefer the belief that Marx and Lenin are merely two of millions who have been unpardonably insulted or injured in other ways through no fault of their own by teachers of spiritual beliefs.

I have every confidence in our present Government, which understands the position and .will, by legislation in the next term of Parliament, set an example to the Christian world, thereby gaining the goodwill of every decent citizen, and possibly be the means of averting the stupendous crime contemplated. If they show weakness where strength and determination are essential, they will face oblivion with the epithet, “ Those bad men.” —I am, etc., J. R. T. Stott.

[Tlie correspondent added a warning that if his letter was declined he would consider it his duty to “ consult’ the Labour Representation Committee or the editor of the Standard.” He should know that while we are reluctant to discourage him from this course, the Daily Times does not reject letters because of their political views, so long as they are brief, legible, moderate in expression.—Ed., O.D.T.]
