THE 40-HOUR WEEK
gjr_We are suffering from under-pro-duction all along the line, and still the Government has not the grit or stamina to say a mistake was made in introducing the 40-hour week, and appeal for an immediate return to the old working week, with no income tax charge on overtime. Production would then be stepped up considerably The Government which made these conditions must now be prepared to pay for them, and the Labourites are not so loyal that they like paying Mr Nash a goodly proportion cf theif overtime money. Might I suggest to Mr Semple that oil fuel railway engines will do just as much good in the South Island as the North, and what a grand opportunity exists with the new engines now being constructed in Hillside. —I am, etc..
