WOOLLEN GOODS
THE EXISTING SHORTAGE PROTEST BY TRADES COUNCIL The alleged withholding by millowners of manufactured woollen goods urgently required for domestic .distribution was discussed recently , at a meeting of the Oamaru Trades Council. The council secretary, Mr A. G. Amies, said he had been in touch with the secretaries of various woollen, mill unions, who had informed him that their, local, mill storerooms were filled with goods which mill owners refused to release until the question of an increase in price was settled by the Price Tribunal. Representations had been made to owners, and the union officials considered that the the position amounted to a lock-out. It was considered by the council that the time had come for the establishment in each centre of a Government warehouse in order that goods wrongfully held back by the woollen mill owners in the present severe shortage could be made available to the public, and it was agreed that representations to this effect be made.
