MOST ADMIRED MEN
MR CHURCHILL PLACED FIRST, PUBLIC OPINION SURVEY IN GERMANY HERFORD, May 27. A Control Commission public opinion survey, which asked British zone Germans what man they most admired among living men, resulted:— Mr Churchill, 24.9 .per cent., M. Stalin, . 19.7, the Pope, 9.4, and President Truman, 7.9. German names appeared well down the list, which showed that the most popular German was Professor Otto Hahn, Hitler’s leading atom scientist, for whom 3.1 voted. Dr Kurt Schumacher, the Social Democrat leader, with 2.7 per cent., was the only German politician “ placed.” No mem-' her of the present British Government was placed.
