WON ON A FOUL

EUROPEAN BOXING TITLE Rec. 9 p.m. LONDON. May 27. Six thousand people at Albert Hall to-night saw the Londoner, A 1 Phillips, the British Empire feather-weight titleholder, win the European featherweight championship when Ray Famechon, the French champion, was disqualified for an alleged foul in the eighth round of a 15-round bout. They fought three rounds at a terrific pace. Phillips got on top for a time but in the sixth and seventh rounds he went down five times from body blows, appealing each time for a foul. Famechon then lowered his head and rushed Phillips to the ropes and this time the referee upheld Phillips's appeal. The crowd booed Phillips at the beginning and end of the fight.
