TECHNICAL COLLEGE ORCHESTRA

The recent visit of tha National 9 r ” chestra of the New Zealand Broadcasting Service has undoubtedly whetted the publie appetite for orchestral music, ana those Dunedin music-lovers whose interests lie in that direction will be pleased to hear of the coming performance by the Symphony Orchestra of the King Edward Technical College. Special interest is attached to this, the second concert of the 1947 season, for it will be the oichestra's last concert under the baton of its founder-conductor, Mr- Frank Callaway. who will leave soon to take up his travelling scholarship in England. A glance at the orchestra’s programme reveals that it has been planned to appeal to all tastes, containing as it does vocal and instrumental items for small and large combinations, ranging from well-tried favourites to less, well-known, newer works. Among these are to be found Purcell’s " Golden Sonata ” played by Joan Gardner, William Davie, and Leonard Schtfabe, the overture to the *’ Occasional Oratorio ” and a delightful ’’ Concerto in B flat,” both by Handel, with tho 15-year-old pianist, Georgina

Smith, as soloist, an Arne Symphonj and a bracket of Mozart songs by Mist Dora Drake. The plan is at Begg’s.
