SIDE-SHOW CHARGES

GOVERNED by demand

About 60 showmen at present in Dunedin for Winter Show Week attended meeting last night to discuss the charges for side-shows, stated to be 35s a foot, being made by the Otago Agricultural and Pastoral Society. It was first suggested that 12s 6d per foot would be a reasonable charge, but it was finally proposed that 25s should be offered. When a division was taken on this proposal it was found that 12 men had already secured allotments at 35s per foot. The meeting then agreed to press for a 5s reduction in the event of rain. , „ „ The secretary of the society, Mr R. D. Stewart, when the question was referred to him, said it amounted to no more than the usual type of argument among the showmen. The charges made were governed by the demand and although an increase in the charges had been made the space available had been readily taken.
