VANDALISM

KING GEORGE’S PARK PAVILION

In his repoit to the monthly meeting of the Oamaru Borough Council the reserves superintendent, Mr John Tait, stated that the pavilion at King George’s Park had been badly damaged, all the windows being smashed and the panels of the doors broken. This pavilion had been repaired from time to time, the report states, and it appeared to be a waste of good materials to repair the damage again until the culprits had been apprehended and dealt with.

The report also states that whilst members of the staff were burning the cut grass at King George’s Park children had set fire to an area in the vicinity of the native trees and shrubs, severely scorching them. It was to be hoped that the trees and shrubs would get over the scorching, as they were doing very well.
