WAIPOUA FOREST

DEPUTATION TO MINISTER PRESERVATION SOUGHT PA WELLINGTON. May 26. An undertaking that he would convey the representations to the Government before plans for the future control of Waipoua State Forest were tinallv submitted to Cabinet for approval was given to-day by the Commissioner of State Forests, Mr Skinner, when replying to a representative deputation which asked that the forest should bo declared a national park under a special board of trustees for permanent preservation in its natural state. The deputation, which was from the Forest and Hint Protection Society of New Zealand and a large number of other organisations, also asked that ail operations at Waipoua should be suspended until the question had been before the Government for a final decision. The Minister said he would be quite hanpv to recommend the setting aside of acres of forest as a reserve and national park if the Government were favourable towards it. He added that the prevent Government had set aside a larger area as scenic reserves than other Governments.
