PAY AND CONDITIONS OF WORK

AILL • AGREEMENT EXPECTED

P.A. WELLINGTON, May 26. A complete agreement following discussions between the employers and workers’ representatives is expected by to-morrow in regard to the matters in dispute between the New Zealand Fire Boards’ Association and the New Zealand Federated Fire Brigade Employees’ Association. This was announced to-day to the special tribunal set up by the Minister of Labour, Mr McLagan, under the Strikes and Lockouts Emergency Regulations to review the conditions and payment of members of New Zealand brigades, the statement being made by Mr S. G. Stephenson, who appeared for the New Zealand Employers’ Federation, acting on behalf of the New Zealand Fire Boards’ Association.

The tribunal, which comprises Mr S. Ritchie .(conciliation commissioner), chairman, Messrs E. H. Ferguson, M. E. Lyons, and C. V. Day (fire boards’ representatives), and Messrs W. C. McDonnell, J. A. Dale, and L. Glover (employees’ representatives). adjourned untii to-morrow. Mr Stephenson asked for an adjournment to continue the discussions between the parties, stating that it was expected that by to-morrow all the differences could be ironed out, and that the parties could come before the tribunal with an agreement. The application for an adjournment was supported by Mr L. Glover secretary of the New Zealand Federated Fire Brigades Employees’ Association.
