BROADCASTING HOURS EFFORTS OF CHAMBER OF COMMERCE At the request of the New Zealand Radio Traders’ Federation (Otago Branch), the Dunedin Chamber of Commerce wrote recently to the Minister of Broadcasting, Mr Jones, protesting strongly against the curtailment of the hours of broadcasting in the South Island and asking that the restrictions should not be enforced on those stations which could be operated on lower power. . This action, the executive reported to yesterday evening’s meeting of the Chamber, was taken in the interests of radio traders and listeners generally. The reply from the Acting Minister Mr Nordmeyer, stated that- the power situation, even in the South Island. required the continuation of reSt The chairman, Mr C. J. Wood, said that since the reply had been received from Mr Nordmeyer, there had been beneficial rain over the whole of the South Island, and the Chamber might make further representations to ascertain if the position had improved sufficiently for the restrictions to be matter was left in the hands of the executive.
