According to latest reports they are laying down grass tracks in the United States. This is being done in order to suit horses racing on the turf in England and on the Continent .in the event of international races becoming established. Fast Going The Trentham track provided fast going for the concluding card of the Wellington Racing Club’s meeting, The Challenge Stakes and the Suburban Handicap were both run in under lmin 26sec. Broiefield won over a mile and a-half in 2min 29gsec, and the Pacific Handicap was won in lmin 12sec.

Dam of European Champion The Gaekwar of Baroda has purchased Jolie Reine, dam of the European champion three-year-old Souverain, and the French filly Piretfe. Pirette is to go into the stable of S.‘ Armstrong, and is to be trained with the Ascot Gold Cup in view. Jolie Reine is again in foal to Maravedis, 'Sire of Souverain, and has been sent to the Beech House Stud. Plans have been made for a mating with Nearco Jolie Reine is by Palais Royal II from Dolores, by Diligence from Arris, by Orby from Aroon. It is understood that the price paid for Jolie Reine is one of the highest figures given for a Frenchbred brood mare. The Gaekwar of Baroda was the purchaser of the yearling full-brother to Dante for the record price of 28,000gns.
