MEANS OF SAVING POWER P.A. PALMERSTON N„ Mar. 17. At a combined meeting of the Mana-watu-Oroua Power Board and the Palmerston North City Council to-day on the power shortage, the following recommendations were made for consideration by the Power Boards’ Association, which meets to-morrow at Wellington:— That broadcasting throughout New Zealand should be restricted to 7.30 to 8 in the morning and 7 to 10 in the evening: that the sale of electrical appliances should be prohibited till further notice; that shops and offices should close at 5 o’clock, with no late night; that where gas is available it should be installed for cooking in State houses; that the Government should consider procuring one or more floating power stations; that sufficient coal supplies be assured for King’s Xvhaff and Evan’s Bay; that licences be granted for the power board to instal generating plants and that where there are trams factory hours be staggered to eafee tram loads.
