GOOD YEAR PREDICTED
AMERICAN FOREIGN TRADE TARIFF REVISION POSSIBLE (Rec. 9 p.m.) WASHINGTON, Jan. 2. The director of the Office of International Trade, Mr Arthur Paul, issued a statement predicting that 1947 would be an even better year for American foreign trade than 1946 was, but warning that the prospects might dim if the United States moved away from lower tariffs. “We are now preparing,” he said, "to exercise the authority Congress granted in its recent renewals of the trade agreements law to reduce our general high tariff rates in exchange for similar concessions by other countries. We should proceed along this course in 1947."
