OBITUARY

MR THOMAS TYRRELL The death occurred suddenly in Wellington on Monday of Mr - Thomas Tyrrell, who was well known in insurance circles throughout the Dominion. He was 53 years of age and was born and educated in Dunedin, where he spent the greater part of his life. On leaving school, he entered •the office of the National Insurance Company and after some years transferred to the 1.0. A. office, later becoming manager of the Ocean, Accident and Guarantee Corporation. About eight years ago he was promoted to an important position in the office of the Commercial Union, first in Wellington and then in Palmerston North, where he lived up to the time of his death. •. Mr Tyrrell was an accomplished musician, and apart from being a fine pianist he was for some years an active member of the Kaikorai Band, and for a term he filled the position of secretary. Lodge work also engaged his interest, and it was characteristic of him that he applied himself to anying he undertook with the greatest energy and thoroughness. He was courteous and obliging and had a large circle of friends both in Dunedin and in Palmerston North. About 28 years ago he married Miss L. McTaggart, of Dunedin, and he is survived by her and by one daughter, Miss Gwenyth Tyrrell. MR W. C. WYNNE Mr William Cooper Wynne, a member of the. staff of the Bank of New Zealand, has died at Hamilton at the age of 49. Mr Wynne, who was born at Dunedin, was severely wounded in France in the First World War, and served with the National Military Reserve on Great Barrier Island in the Second World War. He had been employed at the.. Hamilton branch of the bank for 22 years. ‘ In his youth he was a representative Soccer and Rugby player, and later became an enthusiastic golfer, winning the Waikato and South Auckland championships.
