Papal Blessing Drowned In Uproar

(Rec. 7 p.m.) LONDON, Dec. 30. Hundreds of anti-clericals howled down Cardinal Adeodato Giovanni Piazza, Patriarch of Venice, when he addressed a large crowd assembled to demonstrate their loyalty to the Pope, says Reuter’s Rome correspondent. Shouts, catcalls, and mingling cries of “Long live the Pope,” drowned the Papal blessing which the cardinal attempted to give from the palace balcony in St. Mark’s Square. Vatican radio says the police intervened.
