SOME CLOSE FINISHES In the Trial Plate Sunniray and Blue Mate were last to leave and Blue Hussar led out from Pacific Star, Speedy. Artful Maid, and Enforce. At the end of two furlongs Pacific Star took up the running from Blue Hussar, Speedy and Lady Coolbane. This was the order into the straight and in the race home Blue Hussar finished best to win by three lengths from Artful Maid, with Pacific Star a head away, followed by Enforce and Speedy. Sir Hall dropped out and Expensive led into the straight from Colin Waters, Swaledale, and Captain Sandry Half a furlong from home Swaledale took the lead and fought off challenges from Expensive and Captain Sandy, with Colin Water fourth ahead of Baadin. The Waikoualti Cup Falconbridge drifted just after the start of the Cup and at the end of a furlong Lord Elgin, Kiloney, Double Cross, AlSirat, Gold Lance, Lovemorn, and Eastern Coin was the order. At the mile Kiloney was two lengths clear of Lord Elgin, with Al-Sirat third, ahead of Double Cross, Gold Lance, Lovemorn and Eastern Coin. Running past the five-furlong post Kiloney was still out in front, but Al-Sirat had moved into second place ahead of Lord Elgin. Double Cross, Gold Lance, and Lovemorn. Into the straight the order was Al-Si'at Lord Elgin, Double Cross, and Gold Lance. Over the last furlong the race developed into a desperate duel between Al-Sirat and Lord Elgin, and the latter just got up in the last couple of strides to win by a head, with Gold Lance a length and a-half away, followed by Eastern Coin.
