mos, continuing her run, was up in third place. In a good race home Patmos got up to win by a neck from Brigg Fair, with Air Lord finishing well for third, ahead of Cipher. Cloud Song and Lyndon Lea were next. New Tear Trot Kahurangi and Highland Dale opened up a big lead going down the back in the New Year Trot, and were five lengths clear of Ikawai, Lochdornie, and Sir Hall. Running past the five-furlong post the two leaders were still well clear, and Colin Waters and Swaledale were beginning to move through. Kahurangi and Highland Dale, who never looked like being caught, turned for some six lengths ahead of Ikawai, Locknit. Swaledale, and Lochdornie. In the run to the post Kahurangi went away from Highland Dale to win by four lengths, with Swaledale seven lengths away. Locknit was fourth, ahead of Glenwellyn, Jan Marie, and Ikawai. Toomey Memorial Derene began badly and lost several lengths at the barrier rise for the fivehorse field Ui the Toomey Memorial Handicap. Whitley shot out ahead of Mysterious Melody, Avonbridge, and Velvet Slipper. With half a mile to run, Whitley was out a length ahead of Mysterious Melody, and Derene, showing a brilliant burst, had run up into third place, ahead of Avonbridge and Velvet Slipper. Whitley led Dgrene into the straight, but the latter stopped very quickly, and, galloping freely, Whitley won by four lengths from Avonbridge, with Velvet Slipper five lengths away, and Mysterious Melody fourth. Hawkesbury Handicap Wee Mac was a bit slow to move, and at the end of a furlong the order was Wild Ribbon, Night Fighter, Gay Joy, Wee Mac, Rampage, and Fort Silver. At four furlongs Wild Ribbon was making the pace to Night Fighter, Gay Joy, and Wee Mac. Wild Ribbon and Night Fighter were first to turn for home, and Fort Silver was moving up fast. The field was spread across the track, and a fine race to the post saw Fort Silver get up on the outside to win by a neck from Night Fighter, with Wee Mac half a length away and Wild Ribbon fourth
