SKIFFS SWAMPED
REGATTA IN CHOPPY SEA (P.A.) NEW PLYMOUTH, Jan. 1. All three competing boats in the youths’ fours at the New Plymouth Rowing Club’s regatta, held off the Ngamotu beach to-day, were swamped in a choppy sea and the crews were thrown into the water about a mile ioff shore. All the oarsmen were rescued by the starter’s launch and by a boat from an overseas ship in port, but two skiffs were badly damaged. The Aramoho Club’s skiff was broken in two and will be written off completely, while the Wanganui Union Club’s boat was seriously holed. y
