BUSINESS OF PARLIAMENT

(From Our Parliamentary Reporter) WELLINGTON, Oct. 4. All of this afternoon was occupied by the House of Representatives in an animated discussion on the report by the Defence Committee on the petition by G Laing, Government inspector of motor vehicles, asking for a public inquiry into the supply of motor vehicles to the Third New Zealand Division, stationed in the Pacific. Three Bills were also introduced, two of them dealing with Maori trusts and the other providing for the establishment of a Legislative Council and a Native Appellate Court for the Cook Islands. When the House resumed after the tea adjournment urgency was taken for a substantial list of departmental estimates, in which there was a number of important votes, including those for the armed forces. Although urgency had been taken for 15 classes, progress was reported after eight of them had been passed. These votes totalled £17,524,433. The House rose at 0.25 a.m. until 10.30 a.m. today
