Families and Estate Duties
The introduction of a .sliding scale based on the size of the. family to determine the payment of death duties was advocated at a meeting of the National Council of Women at New Plymouth after a short address by the council's honorary solicitor, Mrs J. Gale, on the payment of duties and problems associated with making a will. A remit will be sent to headquarters of the national council sug• * gesting that death duties should be. altered so that larger families should have more help from estates, and recommending that a sliding scale should be instituted to lower duties as the families become larger.
