EARLY SETTLERS’ ASSOCIATION RENEWAL OF LEASE GRANTED With the knowledge that the tenure of its building site is secure for a gooci many years to come, the Otago Early Settlers’ Association may proceed to make suitable plans for the centennial celebrations of the province in 1948. A letter was received yesterday from the Prime Minister, Mr Fraser, stating that the Minister of Railways, Mr Semple, had granted a renewal of the lease of the land on which the early settlers’ buildings are situated for a term of 21 years following the expiry date in 1948. After that the association would have the right of renewal for a further term of 21 years. The Minister’s decision is the outcome of an interview which the president of the association. Mr W. R. Brugh, had with him recently.
