POPULAR TRAFFIC OFFICER
FAREWELL TO INSPECTOR SIMMONS
On Wednesday night representatives from the civil service, police, solicitors, and borough and county councils gathered to bid farewell to Traffic Inspector L E, Simmons, who has been.transferred from Oamaru to Palmerston North, and left for the north yesterday. Mr .S. W. Armstrong presided. The Mayor, Mr Kirkness, said they all appreciated Mr Simmons’s services to the community. He had done his job well, and had entered into the life of the community. In the north end, particularly, Mr Simmons had been a good friend to the children, teachers, and school. He had also been a member of the Oamaru Savage Club. Mr Kirkness ptesented the guest with a travelling bag and a hatbox for Mrs Simmons, and extended all good wishes for their future success and happiness in Palmerston North. Mr James Rodman (chairman of the Waitaki County Council), Mr H A. Colvin (chief postmaster), and Messrs H. J. =>• Grater (solicitors), J. Branthwaite (town clerk), T. I. McGregor, R. S. Duthie, J. Kingan (farming community), and L)ctective Sergeant J. W. Hill also spoke of Mr Simmons’s service. In acknowledging the presentations and good wishes, Mr Simmons said his stay in Oamaru had been of the happiest, and he would value thfe frinedships made.
