COMMUNIST POLICY
Sir,—Evidently the pamphlet, " It s Take Home Pay That Feeds the Kids,” issued by the Building Trades Group, Communist Party of New Zealand, Auckland, hits the nail on the head. It tells the truth, and the truth has hurt "Loyal British. The letters by Messrs Ikin and Fincham truthfully set out the basic causes of industrial trouble and have hurt “Loyal British ” and “ Elect or Depose." Will your correspondents deny that among emnloyers are some who do not play the game with their workers? Will they not admit that these employers, by harsh of workers and by their refusal to rectify legitimate grievances, precipitate industrial trouble? Is it not preposterous to assert, as “ Loyal British ” has done, that Communists cause industrial troubles? Certain when such trouble arises the Communists, as workers, seek all possible remedies and if, after exhausting all other means, a strike occurs they abide by the decision of the majority and strive for the success of the claims of the workers. The old threadbare trick, used extensively by Hitler, Goebbels, and Co., of branding Communists as unpatriotic and owing allegiance to a foreign power, is surely not seriously believed even by your correspondents. Communists want to see everyone in New Zealand living in peace and plenty, and so they organise with their fellow members of the working class to bring this happy state of affairs about. But certain vested interests feel threatened by the advance of the workers and raise the Red bogey to try and frighten people into believing that they are in danger of coming under some terrible dictatorship. The Red bogey was used over 40 years ago against Seddon and his Liberals, e.g., " The seven devils of socialism.”—l am. etc., Dunedin. August 12. E, W. Hunter.
