MEAT PRODUCERS’ BOARD

Sir,—l can, without any reservation, reply in the negative to all three questions asked by Mr Malcolm. His professed apology I am quite willing to accept. 'To make mv point perfectly clear, I wish to reiterate that never at any time have I made the slightest attempt to deprive Otago and Southland of representation on the Meat Board. On the contrary, I am entirely in favour of electing members to the Meat Board on the ward system with the express purpose of ensuring that Otago and Southland each has its own representative. Regarding his reference to Mr Ormond, I should say that the last thing he (Mr Ormond) would want is a sympathy vote. Returned servicemen pride themselves that they ask no favours, with this one excep-tion-all things being equal, a vote for tile serviceman. If Mr Hammond is not a returned serviceman, and Mr Ormond is as uncompromisingly in favour of cooperative ownership as the former, and is prepared actively to support any workable scheme to implement Federated Farmers' policy, then delegates would be justified in supporting his candidature. I suggest to all those electors who have not yet voted to vote for Messrs Love and Yardley to atone for the unwarranted discrimination shown by the Otago Executive against two loyal members of many years’ standing. Branch presidents should, at an early date, seek an explanation from their representatives on the executive to ascertain who instigated the insertion of the advertisement, so that appropriate action may be taken. I feel that much of the good work carried out by the former president, Mr Hunt, has been nullified by this action of the executive. How can farmers be expected to subscribe to the defence fund, knowing it will be administered by an executive capable of descending to such questionable tactics?— I am, etc., Elector. August 6.
