OBITUARY

MR W. W. ILLINGWORTH

The death occurred on Friday of Mr William Webber Illingworth, of Ribble street, at the age of 71 years. The second son of the late Mr Gavin Illingworth, for many years foreman of works for the New Zealand Railways, he was born and educated at Invercargill. He was later apprenticed to the carpentry trade, and at an early age travelled to the Nortn Island and followed his. occupation for a number of years, when he entered into partnership with Mr J. H. Meyer, of Wellington, who was carrying on an extensive building business. Mr Illingworth returned to Invercargill in 1914, and later removed to Port Chalmers. He came to Oamaru m 1922, and commenced as a building contractor. a trade which he carried on until his retirement about two years ago. Mr Illingworth was an excellent tradesman, and maintained a high standard of workmanship. Although he did not take an active part in public life, he followed affairs with a keen interest, and was well informed on current topics. He had a most genial personality which made for him many friends. He is survived by his wife, and daughter, Mrs W. J. M. Ryan, Dee street, and six grand-children, as well as four sisters— Mrs McNeilage (Christchurch), Mrs Dickson, and Miss G. Illingworth (Lower Hutt), and Mrs C. S. Mackay (Wellington).
