TRAINING COLLEGE WINS

UNION’S UNIMPRESSIVE FORM The high wind blowing straight down the University Oval ground, with rain in it at times, militated against attractive football In the' match .between Training College and Union. The College team won well by nine points to four, and it established its advantage in the first half, when Union had the help of the wind. L. W. Deas kicked a goal from a penalty in the first few minutes of play, and then whenpassing broke down near Union s line, he dribbled the ball cleverly through a gap and scored a smart try. The Training College forwards worked together vlgorouso’and they at least held their ;own throughout the match, but their display was particularly meritorious during the first nan. Perhaps the Union scrummagers lacked a little of their customary devil, but they rucked solidly and were no,t easily held. A H. Ingram, at first five-eighths, and R W. Orr, at full-back, were conspicuous for a lot of' good handling andclever football generally during this stage, and the Training College backs always looked the more impressive combination. T. w. Freeman kicked a field goal for .Union just before half-time, and for a P er iodin toe second half it. seemed that Union might save the day. Fumbling by Maroon .defenders on toeir line enaWed toe Training College forward, R. Harrington, to score the only points of the second half, however, and Training College was not seriously threatened for the remainder of a rather ragged match. Mr J. Briggs was toe referee.
